How can I upgrade the firmware of my UPS SMT1000IC via the LED screen on the device?

There are several options depending upon how the system is configured and connected.

Smart Connect: If the device has a valid subscription you may use the cloud portal service to upgrade the UPS firmware.

Locally: You may follow this APC FAQ link and read all the instructions and requirements before proceeding.

Insure you meet all requirements . . . ☝️

The same link will call out how to identify the UPS ID. It will provide a link to the latest FUW (Firmware Upgrade Wizard).

This Windows software application will detect what UPS ID, firmware that is applicable to your specific hardware device and will upgrade the same.

Do NOT select any other different firmware in the FUW besides what is presented by the FUW application.

NOTE: The only recommended method to upgrade the UPS firmware is locally via the supplied RJ50 to RS-232 Serial cable that came with the unit.

Depending upon UPS Firmware currently in place and (IF) you have an NMC. The option to upgrade the UPS firmware may also be available.

DO NOT use this NMC method  to upgrade . . . 

If the hardware is under APC Warranty the upgrade process should be guided live over the phone with APC Technical Support.

If the unit is not under warranty be prepared to use the recovery process should the unit be bricked! 

You have a better than 50% chance of bricking a perfectly good working unit so be warned.

NOTE: Some UPS firmware will have the option via the LCD Menu to allow the end user to affirm / initiate a firmware upgrade once it’s been loaded.

The FUW may reference the user must take this action to complete the UPS firmware update process.

So don’t walk away during this critical time period.
