Hello,
I've just installed a new SMX3000RMHV2UNC (APC Smart-UPS X 3000 Rack/Tower LCD - UPS - 2.7 kW - 3000 VA) with one SMX120RMBP2U (APC Smart-UPS X 120V External Battery Pack Rack/Tower). It replaces one of the old SU3000INET models with external battery pack. It's configured as a tower unit in my lab.
At least one of the fans runs constantly, even when the UPS is off. It only stops running when the UPS input is unplugged and the UPS output is off.
Is this normal behaviour?
The old SU3000INET fan only ran when on battery or under self-test, not continuously.
Colin.

Thank you. I suggest that you make it clear in the product specification that the fan runs continuously rather than intermittently as with the old SU3000INET model. For some people that will make it unsuitable for an office environment.
Cheers, Colin.

This is a different UPS platform so the fan runs all the time for the most part on high or low speeds depending on the current state of the UPS. This is to keep the UPS cooler. For instance, the UPS will put the fan on high if it is on battery, charging, has a high load, or the internal temperature of the UPS is getting too high.
