send network shutdown from temperature sensor

We currently control shutdown of our cluster by running a script when the UPS goes on battery. We recently installed the environment sensor on the battery so we could also run the same shutdown script if the server room gets too hot.

The installation worked, and we can now monitor the temperature, as well the thresholds work as expected. However, we cannot figure out how to have the temperature alarm trigger a message to connected servers to run a script (shutdown in this case).

Hello,

Was there previously a Network Management Card without a probe installed in the UPS? Have you reinstalled PCNS to see if the new environment options display properly? In most instances of environment with PCNS, you should be able to view it through the PCNS GUI or Web Interface.

Sounds like it could be it... I realized from looking at more documentation that the Environment:Temperature stuff should be an event that the client can monitor. I'll have to download the installer again.

I still have not had any luck yet. I've tried re-installing several times to no avail.

I am using PCNS 2.0.0 for Mac OS X (nothing newer). I am not sure what firmware the card is at, apparently it needs to be 1.5.5, but I can't yet figure out how to find out what it is at.

I have upgraded the card to the latest firmware so it does have the new web interface. I cannot, however, figure out where to see what model card it thinks it is. It does display the environment information in the card interface, just not the client (pcns) interface.

Unfortunately I can not get digital data from the UPSs network to our public network. However on our client, running pcns 2.0.0 for Mac OSX, there are no Environmental events available for configuration. It appears to only have the 'standard' list that had always been there from the 9617 (without temperature sensor). After adding the upgrade, reinstalling pcns it was not working.

I was not sure what the version of the firmware was on the 9617, and we had unused ones with firmware 2.4 (or 2.6 ?) because it met the minimum 1.5 I saw somewhere to support the temperature sensor control. I installed the upgrade on that card, and re-installed pcns 2.0.0 again, with still no new configurable events.

Hello,

Two things were brought up in discussing this. First, when you log into the card, do you see the Environment tab in the web interface? If not, then the original base card is not seeing the actual upgrade kit, and you may want to try and reconnect the two boards to make a second attempt at the card seeing the upgrade kit.

The card is seeing the interface kit. I have been able to read the temperature, set thresholds, and have the card issue over-temp warnings. However, it is just that the pcns does not have the Environment signals as a configurable item.

Oh God.

I apologize. I overlooked the version of PCNS and the respective OS that you were using. There will be a fix soon. We are going to be releasing a version of PCNS (above 2.0) that will support environmental shutdown. I supposed I should stop living in the Windows Bias world.

My apologies.

Does pcns v2.2.1 for Linux support the environmental shutdown?

Thanks.

I made sure to read the specific operating system this time. Yes version 2.2.1 for all platforms supports environmental shutdown.

Sorry about the confusion earlier. Keep an eye on the APC-MGE Software page, as the PCNS client for Mac that supports Environment shutdown should be released soon.

Hello,

Can you provide a screenshot of what the Web Interface of the card looks like right now? From there I should be able to provide more direction.

Thanks.
