scheduled shutdown during power outage

so, I have several smart-ups 2000s (smx2000rmlv2u) with nmc2s running 5.1.7 firmware that I used to shutdown the upses during a power outage with a power back on setting of 5 hours later (scheduled shutdown). shutdown occured as expected, but, 5 hours later, the upses didn't seem to come back online. A/C power still off, so I'm wondering if that is why, even though the units were shut down while they still had plenty of runtime left (60+ minutes on the most drained unit) that the units have come back. the only loads on the units are the network switches to which the nmc2s are connected, so, no power, no network with which to remotely tell what's happening. since it's a (sort of) remote location, my main concern is that the units came back, but for some reason, the switched outlet groups stayed off, potencially exposing the upses to bad power by being on (hate to see my upses get killed by this). the other question is, if it is due to lack of A/C power is why the units are still off, will the units come back to life without manual intervention once power is restored?

thanks for any answers I can get!

Hi,

The UPS are designed to restore power to the outlets once AC is restored so the UPS are working as designed.

Again, if there is no AC available the UPS outlets stay off so there is no danger to the attached load and if there is no AC then there is no danger to the UPS. There is always the possibility when AC is restored that there could be a surge that could damage the UPS but they are designed to deal the typical power up surge/spike.

thanks; the units did return to normal operation without manual intervention once power was restored. guess I just found it odd initially when the units ignored the "power back on" part of the scheduled shutdown while A/C power was still unavailable even though I knew they had plenty of runtime left. thinking through how the units act when first installed regarding not turning on initially if there isn't input power made the situation seem less odd and more to be expected, but, of course, hindsight is 20/20!

thanks again!
