I am thinking about purchasing this UPS unit:
what is the difference of having extra option installed : APC AP9630 UPS Network Management Card 2
or not to having this option? I checked community forums and website and would not find an answer.

If you pay for the option you get a network management card for the UPS. This allow you, among other things, to manage the UPS via an Ethernet connection and a web interface.

Hi Jack,
This UPS has a USB port and an RJ45
USB port: Connect to a computer to use power management software.
RJ45 Serial port: Connect to a computer to use power management software.
Both of these ports allow direct connection to a local computer.
The ability of an NMC is to allow further flexibility.
Looking at the UPS on apc.com then selecting “Options” you will find all components compatible with this UPS.
Network management cards such as AP9630, AP9613 & AP9631 can be seen.
If you search for these cards, you will find further information on their capabilities.
AP9630 – To allow communication over a network.
AP9613 – Dry contacts
AP9631 – Monitor over a network with the ability to use APC compatible universal sensors
The UPS alone cannot be connected directly to a network.
Kind Regards,
Rich…

Thanks for answer, I wanted to know if that RJ45 receptacle mounted on the APC UPS without Network Management card installed is used for network or not.

Hi,
As Richard wrote the RJ port in the back of the SMT1500RMUS is for serial communications. It is not for network communications. The UPS ships a proprietary serial cable. One end is 9 pin serial and the other is RJ45/RJ50.
To connect SMT1500RMUS to the network you will need a network management card installed in the smart slot.
