Can I have 1 server running powerchute business edition agent, monitor 2 ups (Smart-UPS 1500VA ) via USB cables?
Scenario is we will have one master Powerchute server console, and then our remote offices will be running the agents. in each remote office there is a ups for the server and a ups for telecom equipment. We want to be able to monitor both ups's in each office.
any help is appreciated.
thanks

Kvar, have you had experience with setting up the AP9605 with Powerchute Network Shutdown? According to the install guide their unsupported.
http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z5QEQ_R0_EN.pdf
Per this guide, only AP9606, AP9617, AP9618, and AP9619's are supported.
Is there another version of Powerchute over ethernet that you were referring to?

This type of setup cannot be accomplished using Powerchute Business Edition and communication cables. You would need a network managment card (AP9617, AP9618, AP9619) installed in each UPS and install software called Powerchute Network Shutdown. During the installation of the software, you would choose custom install as opposed to typical install and provide the IP addresses of each of the network management cards. Now the server will wait until it receives the shutdown signal from both UPS's. Let me know if you have any follow up questions, this was a basic overview of how it would work.

hmm. I was hoping for a cheaper solution. we only need to Monitorr the telecom ups (battery life, alarms, etc), we don't need to trigger a shutdown to the server if the telecom ups goes down. But if I get you right you are saying that you can't have 2 ups units connected to one server, via 2 usb cables? or a usb cable and a serial cable? Also, my boss, said there is some kind of "Y serial cable" that he heard of that could be used to connect 2 ups to one server.

I would recommend against setting up any serial, usb or combination of both to 2 different UPS's. I would probably attempt to connect the second UPS to another computer. Even if it's not plugged into the UPS in terms of power it would be able to provide you with the monitoring you were looking for. I know the Network Management Card option isn't the cheapest, but it would be your best option.
