Regarding the powerchute business edition...
I think I understand that I need the agent installed on the workstation that the UPS is on. But I don't understand why I need both the server & console installed for a single workstation environment? Can anyone explain what each of these components do in my environment and why I need them all.
Yes, I did look at the APC documentation but it still isn't clear to me since the documentation talks about monitoring other systems from one system (which is not my environment).
One last question, is the personal edition that came with my BX1500LCD primary purpose to shut down your system without the notification abilities of the business edition?
Thanks

PCBE basic, gives you the ability to monitor 5 UPSs in total from one central location....
The Server portion will go out and find all of the APC PCBE agents and group them together.
The Console will allow you to simply view all of the Agents under one application.
In your case, installing just the Agent portion might be enough, although we normally recommend downloading all 3, as the Console is much more user-friendly than the Agent is on its own.

You can install only the Agent and access it via the web interface on port 3052. However, you will lose the notification features that are available in the Server portion of the software. You can run it without all three and it will shutdown gracefully. As for your question pertaining to PCPE. PCBE is not compatible with that Back-UPS, and only worked with some older Back-UPS Pro's which used Smart Signaling.
