need the original cable for Smart UPS C1000
Hi,
I have an APC Smart-UPS that had been connected to our server via USB ports. I was just forced to update to PowerChute Serial Shutdown Agent Version and communication has been lost. There are three ports in the back of the device, a network RJ45 port, a port labeled serial that is similar to the network jack (RJ50?) and a USB port which is what we had been using. I'm assuming with the new software, the serial port needs to be used. I do not have the original cables that came with the device and would like to know specifically what I need to purchase to connect the device to our server. I read somewhere about a DB9, but it's not clear to me as it relates to a cable.
For the benefit of others who may stumble upon this thread it should be made clear the following:
All communication ports on the back of the APC UPS uses a base serial protocol but have different I/O interfaces such as RJ45, RJ50, USB, Radial Jack, DB9 (RS-232).
The UPS communicates using the APC Proprietary Smart Signaling / Simple Signaling.
Only one Serial port may be used at any one time unless the target device supports a Serial expander.
The RJ50 -> DB9 (RS-232) Serial cable will need a USB -> DB9 (RS-232) dongle adapter if required.
