Just to expand on the other members comments. Depending upon what model UPS you have and accessories purchased. Every APC UPS has a USB port which you can use and install Power Chute Personal / Business software onto a computer system and is included in the box. Some units also have a serial port to allow direct access while using third party software too.
If your UPS has a green RJ45 port that is for APC Smart Connect (Cloud Based) service which allows you to monitor, be alerted, and control the UPS. This service is free for six months than you need to purchase a subscription to have continued access to the features / services.
Lastly, if your unit has a Smart Slot on the back you can install a APC NMC (Network Management Card) to provide you local access, control, and email notification. If your IT Department uses SNMP to monitor their network infrastructure the (NMC) can be configured to send SNMP Traps to a NMS (Network Monitoring System) to track and send alerts of changing conditions of the UPS / Environment.
