Hello. I have SUA1000I, firmware 600.1.I, connected to Win2003 server via USB, and managed by Powerchute business. It was working flawlessly for at least 3 years, but a few days ago I had an automatic shutdown due to exceeded internal temperature:
4/11/09 10:07:15 Monitoring Stopped
4/11/09 10:07:08 Self Test Passed
4/11/09 10:07:02 Internal Temperature In Range
4/11/09 10:06:59 Internal Temperature Exceeds Critical Range
4/11/09 10:06:59 Shutdown process started
4/11/09 10:06:56 Self Test Initiated
Notice that the alarm was triggered right after usual self-test. After reboot UPS is holding fine. Could this be just a fluke in firmware/software?
The server room is air conditioned, and UPS internal temp was always around 24-26 C. Software logs data every 5mins, and last measurement was around 10:04, 26C.

when you walked over to the UPS after it turned off, did you see any LEDs flashing on the front of it before you turned it back on?

since the message indicated the event only lasted a couple seconds, it would be a fluke if the temperature really didnt spike - which you have seemed to have ruled out and we can back that up by viewing the data log. since the interval on the data log isnt low enough to catch, i cant think of way to find out WHY it happened if it was indeed erroneous.
