i have 2 40kva UPS that am looking after and another 30kva in a remote place. i have email notifications configured quite well but the provision for email only goes up to 4 email addresses. Because of this limitation on the number of email notifications recipients, my colleague created a group email which comprises of more than 7 recipients but the sad part is that the group email doesnt get the notifications. when i just put 4 ordinary emails as recipients, it works ok. Is anyone able to resolve this email recipient limitation
Secondly;
i also have a 16kva symmetra power array which is in bypass, i tried to access the nmc while the UPS is in bypass but the card was not responding. Does this mean the network management card can only be configured while the symmetra power array is online?

Thanks so much for sharing Jon.
The firmware you referenced is for the UPS itself. You'll want to find the Network Management Card firmware. If it is a blue and white interface it is older and if it is a newer management card and firmware, it will be green and white. AP9617/18/19 management cards are older and do not support email authentication but AP9630/31/35 do and should meet the requirements for working with your server using SMTP authentication (I hope).
Let me know if you have any questions. We could explore a firmware update if you do have an AP9630 or AP9631 if you prefer not to change this setting on your mail server.

Hi,
Yes, most, if not all management cards have a (4) recipient limit for email. (I say that now in case a future firmware changes something.) The NMC can't tell what recipient you're sending it to and if it is a group or not. That being said, the only solution would be to create a group on your email server and have the email server forward it to the recipients of that group. If it is not working, my first suspicion would be on the configuration of the group server side or the configuration of that recipient on the management card. If the configuration of that group is the same as the other (3) recipients on the management card, I'd look at the mail server logs to see if you can verify if the management card is sending the email and if there is an error some place else.
Regarding your second question, an NMC is accessible over the network as long as the UPS electronics are energized. The state of the UPS output does not matter - bypass, on, off, etc. If your access is changing based on UPS state, I'd validate the network connection to the UPS is not dependent on the UPS state some how - for example, a switch that isn't powered by the UPS and goes off during a bypass or off state for some reason. You could also validate the LEDs on the management card visually when the UPS is in bypass.

Can you confirm - what doesn't work? Both the email test function and notifications or just the test or just the notifications?
Could you share your event.txt and config.ini from this device for review? (Instructions on downloading log files are here -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156131)

Thank you Angela, a test email is always a success via the NMC but the email doesnt reach the recipient. It doesnt bring any error

Hi Katongo,
So how do we know this is a failure with the NMC versus a failure with the mail server/group configuration somewhere? Can you confirm your mail server is recieving a connection or an email from the NMC?
I don't see how if the NMC is not displaying an error that the issue can be on the NMC side. The NMC has no ability to tell if the recipient is a group or a single individual account and the fact that there is no error, makes me think that you should look into the mail server log or group configuration.

Thank you angela, i think will leave puzzle with my coleague managing the servers.
its only that (zesco) the electricity company i work for thought. the problem was with my UPS units.
On a different scenarior, i have smart UPS VT 40Kva with model number SUVTP40KH. what replacement parts can i buy for this machine? The people in your sales department are asking for part numbers which i dont know where to find. Can we use the model number to determine the part numbers?
The task i have at work is to provide a list of replacement parts which can be kept in our stores for the SUVTP40KH.

I see you already posted this Smart-UPS VT question in another thread but your local technical support team may be able to provide you a list. For the larger, more complex UPSs that are used in different configurations and regions, we aren't able to provide that type of detail here unfortunately.

I know this is an old post but I ran into the same problem. I created a distribution group in Exchange 2007. When sending test emails, they would go to my email address fine but emails sent to the group would never go through. The NMC reported all tests as successful.
The problem in my case turned out to be that the new group I created had a security setting enabled. In the Distribution Group properties in the Exhange Management Console, under Mail Flow Settings > Message Delivery Restrictions, the checkbox for "Require All Senders are Authenticated" was checked. We are running firmware 319.11.d (version might not be correct) and as of that version, it's not possible to supply login credentials for the email server. I don't believe this setting used to be enabled for distribution groups by default, but possibly a MS patch changed that. Not sure.
We have a special email server that doesn't require login but restricts sending based on sender IP. We use this for the UPS and other devices such as multifunction printers that either can't supply credentials or still don't work when we do.
The downside of disabling authentication is you run the risk of a spammer getting the group address and spamming it, but in my experience with over 500 DGs where I work, it's extremely rare. If it becomes a problem, I'll just block email to that group on our hosted anti-spam service.
So:
1) Make sure your UPS IP is allowed to relay on your mail server.
2) Make sure sending to the group doesn't require authentication.
3) Optionally, "Hide Group from Exchange Address Lists"
