Hello,
i want your help on this point.
We have two APC UPS:
- One MGE Galaxy 5000 with a 66074 network management card
-One SURT6000XLI with a AP9631 network management card.
These UPS provide power supply for all of our servers. each server has two power supplies, each one connected to an UPS.
We would like to configure PCNS to shutdown the servers when these two UPS lost both their power source. Reading the APC documentation i've seen that this is call redundant UPS configuration. But also in these documents it's said that the two UPS must be the same model and type. Is this the case ?
Should i really have two UPS with the same model to achieve this? If yes, is there any solution i could follow to do this configuration. If no, What is the best way to achieve my goal ?
thank in advance.

Hi,
Unfortunately the Galaxy 5000 is not supported in a redundant configuration. The 5000 is designed for parallel redundant or parallel UPS configuration with the AP9635CH card installed. Application Note 169 discuss this.
Application Note 98 discusses SURT6000 with redundant UPS configuration. The SURT models UPS can be configured redundantly but the other UPSes need to be SURT models as well.

The MGE 66074 does not work with PowerChute Network Shutdown, only the MGE Network Shutdown Module software I believe. So, I don't think that you'll be able to get this to work unless you had two APC Network Management Cards, one in each UPS. But, Bill P., I know we had a question recently on using a Symmetra LX and PX together and there was no problem with that, but was it only because they are both "Symmetras" of some type? If mcoly somehow got an APC Network Management Card in his Galaxy UPS, would that be allowed like the Symmetra LX/PX is? Or is it too different?
Depending on your model of Galaxy 5000/5500 (and what Bill P can clarify), some of them can be converted to an APC AP9635CH Network Management Card but you'd have to have your local technical support verify the exact UPS model and serial number to see if it can be converted to use an APC Network Management Card instead of the MGE 66074.
While we recommend the same type of UPS in general, you might run into configuration problems with different types of UPSs, and the events they support within PowerChute Network Shutdown if you got this working if it works at all. And, we have not tested this type of thing so you may have to spend a little time verifying there are no unforeseen circumstances if we got this far.
