Which software works with OS X 10.5.x Server & and an Xserve (Intel)?
Hello.
I've recently upgraded our servers from an old G5 Xserve running OS X Server 10.3.x to an Intel Xserve running OS X Server 10.5.4 — before I make it a "live" server I was wondering what APC software, if any, supports this new hardware/OS? Right now I'm just running PowerChute PE on the old Xserve, but since I'm now going to have 2 Xserves, I may also consider a more advanced UPS system (allowing me to connect/shutdown more than 1 machine, etc.).
Any information would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Kristin.

Thanks — I'll check those options out right now!
As for "native USB shutdown" — what do you mean? Is there UPS detection built into 10.5 Server when connected to a UPS via USB? If so, that'd be a great temporary solution (while I figure out what to upgrade to)!?
Thanks again!
Kristin.

Hi theboyk,
Currently the only software that has been released for 10.5.x is PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS) 2.2.3 for 10.5.5. Please see http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/SJHN-7AYQNP_R6_EN.pdf for a list of OS PCNS 2.2.3 will support. There has currently been no ETA announced yet for any other software that I am aware of. To use this you will need a Network Management Card (NMC part numbers AP9617, 18, and 19). This will allow you to also shutdown more than one server at a time.
If you don't have a NMC at this time then the best suggestion is to use native USB shutdown. This will limit you to 1 computer per UPS for shutdown.
I hope this helps.
