Which rack UPS is silent when battery not charging?

Hi,

I need to have my UPS in my home rack in my living room, thats why it shoud be as silent as possible. I read that APC has some rack UPS, where the fans are not running if battery is charged. As well there are some differences if the seria number starts with IS or AS (newer hardware revision which supports this feature). Does APC Smart-UPS C 1000VA 2U support it? Thanks

Thanks for the clarification. Anything 1500VA or larger and all Smart-UPS online units (SRT models) have fans. None of them are especially noisy - Typically they are similar to a desktop PC or standard style server.To minimize sound output I would recommend using 1000VA line interactive units (Models that begin with SMC,SMT,or SMX.)

Hi Martin,

IS or AS would only indicate where a product was physically manufactured and has no bearing on functionality.

All Smart-UPS make some noise - They are designed with data centers in mind rather than home or AV applications in mind, so we tend to prioritize cooling over noise levels.

What size UPS do you need for your application? Some of the smaller units do not have a fan, which would reduce the sound levels...

I need something from 1U to 3U, 1000VA at least , I just need gracefully shutdown my server more or less. However small noise is not a problem, just I would like to avoid big noise like 1U servers are making...
