Samjones,
As far as I know, only the battery can be sent to the battery disposal center. You can either dispose the old battery cartridge at any local battery disposal location or you can pay for the shipping of the used battery to one of our authorized disposal facilities.
Battery Disposal Contact:
Name: CSB
Phone: 800-327-2872
Location: Various Locations in the U.S.
You do have another option if you are planning to purchase a new UPS. I hope that you are aware of the APC trade UPS program([http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=298]). By trading your any old/failed UPS to a new UPS, APC will handle the proper disposal of your old unit (APC even pays for the return shipping of your old unit).
And....http://www.apc.com/recycle/
I hope that this helps.
