What fuse do I need on the batteries of a SmartUPS 1400 ?

Say all!
I looked EVERYWHERE for this, and can't find the answer...:

What fuse do I need on the batteries of a SmartUPS 1400 ?

I replaced the batteries on one of mine... (well, tried to!), but the old batteries had leaked a little, and the fuse is fused (!) to one of the battery lugs).

So I need a new fuse to get these batteries swapped out.

Please advise!

Seller 73volts sells the parts taken from old genuine RBC7 batteries including the anderson connectors, nuts/bolts, terminal caps, and fuses on ebay.

Hello:

Unfortunately we don't sell the fuse by itself. The reason being is that our RBC cartridges all come with the necessary fuses between the batteries. Use of third party batteries is not something we recommend. I understand if you are trying to save some money by replacing your own batteries. Some have luck doing this, others don't. Results definitely may vary as the UPS is designed to operate with a specific battery. Often times batteries not designed for the UPS will not last nearly as long as others, and in the worst cases could end up swelling or leaking.

With all that said, I'd be glad to leave this thread open for some folks to give you some unofficial advice on this, if anyone has any personal experiences. Just figured I'd first let you know APC's stance on this, and why we do not offer the fuse separately.

Good luck!

Interestingly enough, the only batteries that have ever swelled up in my APC UPSes have been "genuine" APC ones.

So far as "genuine" APC batteries go, having disassembled quite a few such battery packs over the years, the batteries used have ranged from Panasonic to Best Battery (aka BB Battery, Best and Best Battery) with the Panasonic generally lasting the longest (longevity also depends on UPS usage/power quality/load etc).

Of course, one should always choose the UPS version (aka "standby") of battery which may cost slightly more, but which will last significantly longer in typical UPS usage (long periods of standby punctuated with infrequent deep discharges).

Looking at the photo's of RBC25 battery packs, I have found the fuse that you require.

It is a 60A LITTELFUSE. Manufacturers part number: 0299060.ZXNV - Automotive Fuse

Any electronics retailer, such as maplin, radio shack should be able to supply this.

Hope this helps

Paul

As a reminder:

APC does not support the use of 3rd party batteries in anyway. They have not been tested in the UPS and the results of using them can not be guaranteed. Using them could result in, but not limited to, the battery leaking acid. If you use a 3rd party battery any and all warranties on the UPS will be void.
