Version 2, 10 K Power Modules

Does anyone know the actual difference between SYPM10KF and SYPM10KF2?  The previous part number has been discontinued and replaced with the "2" version.  Are these parts totally interchangeable?  Can you have a mix of both types in the same Symmetra PX frame?  Is having a mix considered "best practice"?

Hello,

The SYPM10KF is a 10kW, 208V 3-Phase power module used in the Symmetra PX 100kW, 20kW, 40kW, and 80kW UPS.

The SYPM10KF2 is a 10kW, 208V 3-Phase power module and was developed as part of the High Efficiency Power Module development program. It is 100% backward compatible with the SYPM10KF.

I have a FAQ I found..

Can I mix the SYPM10KF and SYPM10KF2 in the same power frame? YES, the SYPM10KF2 is 100% fully backward compatible with the SYPM10KF and can be mixed in a single frame. There are no limitations. For example, in a PX80kW, which can hold nine (9) 10kW Power Modules, you can mix eight (8) SYPM10KF’s with one (1) SYPM10KF2. Likewise, you can mix eight (8) SYPM10KF2’s with a single SYPM10KF or any other combinations.

To use the SYPM10KF2, you'll need a certain firmware in your UPS. Here is some detail on that. If your UPS does not have the required firmware, you'll want to contact 3 phase tech support for obtaining it.

Can I use the SYPM10KF2 in an existing PX system? Yes, the high-efficiency power module is fully backward compatible with systems running the following firmware versions:

Symmetra PX 20/40/80kW

  • Power Module Controller (PMC): 18.00 or 19.00
  • Intelligence Module (IM): 20.0 or 20.10
  • Static Bypass Switch (SBS): 7.2

Symmetra PX 100kW

  • Power Module Controller (PMC): 18.00 or 19.00
  • Intelligence Module (IM): 3.21 or greater.
  • Static Bypass Switch (SBS): 3.03

Let me know if you have further questions.

I figured I would add:

What are the benefits of using the new Power Module SYPM10KF2?

Primarily its higher efficiency, with up to 95% efficiency in double-conversion mode. The previous power module SYPM10KF provided up to 92.5% efficiency. Detailed efficiency curves are available on the APC web site. In addition, any Symmetra PX system using exclusively SYPM10KF2 modules is ENERGY STAR® certified, providing potential tax rebates or incentives where available.

Hi Angela, appreciate the information.  Where do I find the firmware versions (ie can I navigate through the menus or are they labelled on each section)?

Thanks,

Hi Bernie - do you mean on the UPS LCD (PowerView) or through the web interface of the Network Management Card (NMC)? If you mean NMC, let me know if your interface is green/white or blue/white.
