VMWare PCNS Appliance doesn't retain hostname between restarts

Hello,

During the intial setup for PCNS, you're asked to verify various things about your network configuration. One of those things is your hostname.

I deployed PCNS in two instances today and have found that the hostname and domain settings do not survive a reboot. I discovered this because I wanted to change the hostname earlier today on a brand new install. I looked up how to change it on CentOS (which is what powers the PCNS appliance) and made changes there. Those changes did not stick after a reboot.

Since it was a brand new installation without anything much done to it, I blew the VM away and reinstalled from scratch. As usual, I verified the hostname during the first bootup. This time, I rebooted after I ran the PowerChute Network Shutdown configuration wizard and the hostname reset again to localhost.locdomain.

How can I stop this from occurring?

I just figured it out!

I was pointing DNS at my Windows DNS server and without an associated PTR record, the hostname wasn't retained. I just created both the A record and the associated PTR record with the desired hostname, rebooted PCNS and it's now correct!
