Using SNMP to change password

Hello Everyone,

I know this question has been asked but I dont believe its been answered.. at least not that I found.

Does anyone know what the OID is to change the password on Web management cards (AP9605/9606/9617 thru 19 and 9630 series cards)?

I was sniffing around and found this...

Name:upsAdvConfigPassword
Oid:1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.5.2.15
Composed Type:DisplayString
Base Type:OCTET STRING
Status:mandatory
Access:read-write
Kind:Scalar
SMI Type:OBJECT-TYPE
Module:PowerNet-MIB
Description:The password entered at the UPS front panel to enable local
configuration of the EEProm. If the password is disabled or
is not supported, then the agent returns a null string.

I dont believe that this is what I am looking for and I also suspect that it may be hidden so its not easily found. I know APC has that Infrastructure software that could do it, but my company isnt spending ANY money on such unnecessary items since its pretty costly to cover about 400 UPS and PDUs.

I would be happy if I could just do an snmpset via a script to get them done.

I saw where someone said to use an INI and script it. The first problem with that is the 9605/6 series dont use an INI file. And the second problem with that is that I believe if you script it to FTP the config.ini file that it would just over write the other config.ini file which will clear it out.

I also saw mentioned of using radius, we do have a radius server, but again not all versions of the cards will use a radius server plus I would still have to remote into each and every card to make the change as I didnt see any radius server OIDs either.

I would think that the Infrastructure software would use SNMP to make the changes, so that sets me back to the thought of some hidden SNMP capabilities being out there on these cards.

Can anyone help? APC???

Thanks
Jeff

As far as I know, there isn't one in SNMP, although I'm only familiar with the AP9617 through 9630 (NMC I and II). The OID you found looks like a password for the PowerView display.

As for the INI file... it's not a real file. When you get it via FTP, it's generated based on the settings on the NMC, and when you put it back, all the settings present in the new file are applied. You can strip out everything but the password to apply a new password, and none of the other settings will be changed.

InfraStruXure Central puts a pretty GUI and error checking on top of FTPing INI files into multiple NMCs. You can certainly script this.

I think the AP9617 on upward support both RADIUS and INI files, so that leaves you with just the AP9605/6. I suppose you could try scripting the telnet interface with Expect.
