I have this error when i try to install Powerchute Personal on PC with Windows 7. During installation (when installation program disable windows native power management and try to re-enable it) system crash reporting an error in ntfs.sys STOP: 0x00000024. I used Debugging Tools:

NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM (24)
If you see NtfsExceptionFilter on the stack then the 2nd and 3rd
parameters are the exception record and context record. Do a .cxr
on the 3rd parameter and then kb to obtain a more informative stack
trace.

Hi nirvana,

This may be elemental, but first...we assume that the UPS is of sufficient capacity to handle the power demands of your PC's set up, and the USB cable provided by APC is connected between your PC and the UPS, in order to install APC software while the UPS is online and connected to the PC.

Next, to quote a part of your posting: "During installation (when installation program disable windows native power management and try to re-enable it) system crash..."

Does this mean that after the PowerChute application is being installed or is already installed and running (and has disabled the Windows Native power management), that you 'try to re-enable' the Windows Native power management...as the PowerChute is simultaneously running?

If I understand correctly (and I apologize if I do not), that may be like trying to squeeze 10 pounds of content into a 5-pound container. Two power-management-system software applications running at the same to control hardware may conflict.

On my PC with Windows 7, I started the APC UPS set-up process with Windows Native power management active, but downloaded and installed PowerChute v2.2, which automatically and appropriately disabled Windows Native power management (so as to not have 2 bosses trying to run things at the same time).

For personal purposes, I believe PowerChute is superior in managing my APC UPS because it provides more detailed status and control information than does Windows Native power management.

If your prefer PowerChute, you may not want to re-enable Windows Native power management while PowerChute is simultaneously enabled and active.

Does that begin to address the issue you presented? Otherwise, I apologize if I misunderstood.

Best wishes.

First I would like to apologize for not having responded to your work but I have been abroad for work.
I thank everyone for the responses and I apologize for not having explained precisely as it should be done in these cases. Unfortunately, my English does not help me, so I apologize in advance for my mistakes.

My UPS is RS 800. I tested power consumption of the system under max load and I verified that takes a maximum of 350-380 watts; so I think that the UPS is properly sized. Finally I run the installation process very precisely by connecting the UPS to the PC with the included cable at the time specified in the installation manual. Infact, the PC (under Device Manager) see the UPS properly.

When I install the PowerChute software, the PC has a Windows 7 installed for a very short time, with all values related to power management, set on the default values. Powerchute installation stops when installation process disable windows native power management. Yesterday I noticed that the installation hangs precisely when the installer says 'start services'. So the Powerchute installation process does not end and (after crash and the re-start of the system) the program results not installed.

So I suppose it blocks immediately after "taking over" the power management.

So probably my mistake: PowerChute properly "take possession" of the system power management but crashes shortly after later, when it need to enable (perhaps) the service.

I absolutely do not try to meld two system power management applications. On the contrary: at another run I also disabled everything related to the native power management system. But without success: the powerchute installation process stops at the same point.

I apologize for not having explained precisely and in detail the problem. Please forgive me!
Hope that now all is clear. If not please tell me and i will try to re-explain this problem.

If necessary I can send to your technicians kernel memory dumps.
