Using PowerChute with a Hyperv Virtual machine with SMX1000

I have a HyperV server with 2 guest Windows 2008 OSs, connected to a SMX1000 UPS. Since Hyperv cannot monitor serial or USB ports, I had intended to run PowerChute on a Windows XP PC controlled by the same UPS. Is this the proper/best method? I set up a Command File in the XP PC to shut down the Hyperv server. The XP shut down directly from PowerChute, but the Hyperv did not. Is there a problem with credentials, or some other problem?
