Hi all,
Before I start just thought I'd make it clear that I've never used a UPS before and only know a very small amount about them, so please be gentle, especially if it turns out that I'm just being silly!
Whilst at work the other day I discovered an old Smart-UPS 1000 ready for the skip, so having spoken to management I acquired it for use at home. I'd been told that the battery probably isn't brilliant but I'm not too bothered, for the time being it's just something to "play" with and gain some experience with using UPS's.
So I followed the instructions, plugged my PC in to it and switched it on. PC worked fine and the UPS appeared to be charging, so I installed the PowerChute software so that I could check the status etc. I plugged the serial cable in, and as soon as I plugged it in at both ends, the power went and the UPS switched itself off. Just to make sure I tried it again, and sure enough nothing. If I try to switch it on when the serial cable is plugged in it refuses to power up at all.
Can anybody shed any light on what I'm doing wrong/what's wrong with the UPS? Is it just ready for the skip as was originally assumed?
Cheers in advance for any help/ideas.
Martin

To add to what voidstar had already mentioned. See if you can still find the cable that came with it. To give you an idea it could either be a 940-0024x which is a 6 feet cable or a 940-1524x which is a 15 feet cable where X denotes the revision like C, D or E?
