We are replacing UPS in branch offices with UPS SUM1500RMXL2U. We are going to use HP OpenView to monitor the new UPS.
Any suggestion what to monitor besides monitoring battery status? Is there any documentation regarding what to monitor? I don't want to overwhelm our Help Desk with more alerts than they already receive from other devices but I want to be sure that if the UPS needs attention, we can get to it on-time.
Also is SUM1500RMXL2U battery is hot swappable?
I appreciate your input.
Thanks,
Indo

You can use HP OpenView to monitor the UPS, as it is SNMP capable. You can route the unit to communicate with any NMS or SNMP agent on a network, or limit to an individual NMS address. You will need our APC MIB (available via our website downloads section, SFPMIB398 is the latest rev.) to allow polling of UPS OID data. You can poll any piece of information that is available in the NMC GUI, and yes this includes battery status, unit status, faults, etc.
I would recommend on deciding what you think is important for a help desk to know, then browse the MIB to find the OIDs for those items.

Smart UPS SUM1500RMXL2U UPS does have a pre-installed Network Management Card. By configuring an IP address for the NMC, you can monitor the UPS status such load power draw, UPS runtime, Power Problems event logs, data logs and a lot more...So please login to the NMC web interface to see what all you can monitor 🙂
You may view the NMC demo on APC testdrive web site: [http://testdrive.apc.com/]
More ever, the NMC events can be configured individually. So it is up to you to decide what are the events that you would like to receive from the NMC through email. And also the logs will be stored by the NMC which you can view under event and data logs.
Yes, the SUM1500RMXL2U's Battery Module is hot swappable. This UPS is separated into 3 parts: Battery Module, Power Module, and Chassis. For your information, Power and Battery Modules can be replaced individually and have their own serial numbers. This Unit goes to bypass automatically when power module is removed or when it is faulty. It has 3 User controllable outlet groups that can be power cycled using the network management card interface.
