Hi,
I'm getting the following 'Unknown OS' error when installing APC PowerChute Network Shutdown 3.0.0 for VMWare ESXi on hosts with a 4.1.0 build (433742).

Any ideas what's going on here? I'm just trying to ensure the hosts and VMs shut down gracefully on UPS battery rundown.
Many thanks in advance.

I got a problem is that a message "there's no such folder exist-/etc/rc.d/init.d .." when I installed PCNS 3.0 in a VMA5.
I tried to creat a directory named init.d under the /etc/rc.d, and then executed the ./install_en.sh file.
SURPRISED!! IT WORKS!
But I need to solve how to automatically start powerchute service when system booting.
Try to configure 'chkconfig --add powerchute' that seems not to work. Any help?

are you using vMA with this? if so, which version?
my guess is vMA 5 which we don't support yet but PCNS 3.0.1 will support it with an expected December release.

No, not with vMA. Just trying to install it manually on each ESXi host via the COS. Have temporarily enabled Remote Tech Support (SSH) on each host to carry this out.
So, the procedure I'm using is as per 'Installing on Linux, virtualization software, and UNIX' on p6 of this link:
... as opposed to this procedure:
Is using the vMA the only valid procedure? If not, what are the benefits of using it?
Many thanks,
IR8

yes, vMA is required when using ESXi. page 3 of the first link you sent says:
For ESXi:
- You need to install PCNS on a VMware Infrastructure Management Assistant (VIMA, also known as vMA) instance running on the ESXi server.
i don't know much about this type of setup but i do know its required for ESXi to work with powerchute. we support up to vMA 4.1 with PCNS. currently there is no other option to install it.
ESX, as opposed to ESXi, is where you can install it on the Console Operating System.
