Am new to UPS systems, am considering getting a APC back-UPS 700 but want to make sure the USB port and signal is compatible with a Sysnology 410j NAS. The NAS has a input for a UPS USB and will go into a controlled shutdown mode if it receives a low battery signal via USB. Does the APC-UPS support this? There is not chance of installing any additional software on the NAS, so i guess my question is if this is a standard alarm/event which is transmitted via the USB cable and does th e UPS 700 from APC also support this.

yes, APC UPSs support USB and signaling via that but if you could provide us with the documentation on your NAS, that may be better. it also may be worthwhile in checking with the NAS folks on what type of UPS model they recommend and if there are any other details you should know about using a UPS with your NAS.
