Hello,
I would like to know what is the power consumption from mains of a
APC Smart-UPS RT 8000VA RM 230V
with up 3 APC Smart-UPS RT 192V RM Battery Pack.
This is in order to dimension the mains cabling requirements.
Many thanks

You're welcome.
The 869 watts is the UPS charger itself which would charge the UPS's internal batteries as well as the amount of supported battery packs (up to 10). The UPS is the only thing that is capable of being charged as the packs are just plain ol batteries and do not affect the max of 869 watts.

Hello,
I believe in the user's guide for the UPS it tells you what gauge/size of wire to use for the UPS and what size breaker is required for the circuit the UPS is on which should help with your question. Requirements for cabling take everything into account such as consumption while charging, overloads, etc.
The user's guide is available here-> http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z8LVK/ASTE-6Z8LVK_R7_EN.pdf

Thank you Angela - the installation guide is very useful.
I did not explain correctly in the original post.
I would like to know how much power is consumed by the UPS from the mains whilst charging (or not).
If I have understood correctly it would not exceed 10% of any particular models rating.
Taking the quoted model rating of 6400 Watts/8000 VA, the maximum power consumption from the mains would not exceed 640 W (even with fully discharged batteries). Have I got this right?
Many thanks

I dont think so because alone the battery charge is 869 watts (~2A). Previously, I have used a combination of that plus UPS efficiency to calculate this but I would assume 869 watts with fully discharged batteries (minimum). Instead of calculating I went digging and found:
Max input: 55A during 160V Bypass with battery charging and 33.5A for Line current at rated load and constant current charging (Amps).
Does this help?

Dear Angela,
Thank you again.
The battery charge you refer to - 869 watts - is that for the UPS RT 8000VA on its own or with up 3 APC Smart-UPS RT 192V RM Battery Pack also included?
