UPS Solution

Hi all,

I'm looking into a UPS solution for powering a BT Home Hub, BT Openreach Box and a Desktop PC with a monitor, the problem is I have these devices spread across the building so I may have to purchase 2 if needs be, I preferably would like the UPS(s) to be compact and small if possible, which model(s) of UPS do you recommend to achieve this solution? Your help and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hello Tim, 

I am glad to hear you are interested in APC products, but before I can make any recommendations, I would have to know both the power requirements (wattage) of the equipment you are trying to power, as well as how much runtime (minutes) you are looking for in your UPS systems. 

Just to get you started, start looking at the BR series (like the BR1000G), it is our latest home end-user product line and has a very easy to use LCD screen.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I have managed to find the wattage of each item I am wanting to power back up using UPSs and as follows: BT Home Hub (24 watts), Openreach Box (12 watts), Power Extension Lead (3250 watts) which both the BT Home Hub and Openreach Box are plugged into, PC (350 watts) and Monitor (360 watts). The BT Home Hub, Openreach Box and Power Extension Lead are in a separate room away from the PC and Monitor so I may need 2 UPSs, the only problem I see with this is the Power Extension Lead, do I think I have calculated this wrong? I used the following the website to calculate the number of watts for the Power Extension Lead.

What is the Power Extension Lead? Is it a heater? Motor of some sort? I ask because that seems very high, the prices is in the thousands to support 3000W. If the total is nowhere near there, you might want to go with the BR700G, depending on what the actual load is.  

350W seems typical for a PC, but the monitor seems way too high, they are 40-80W typically. Either way, the BR1000G , BR1300G or BR1500G might be good fits for those, depending on the amount of runtime you want.

My guess is the "power extension lead" is an extension cord -- uses no power itself but, assuming UK voltages based on the BT equipment, can carry up to 13 Amps. If this is the case, we can ignore it for the purposes of calculating wattage needed.

Hello Shanon,

The power extension lead is an extension lead like voidstar assumed. With regards to the BR700G I'll have a look at the specs to determine the actual load.

I agree the load for the monitor does seem way too high but I'll also have a look at the specs for the BR1000G, BR1300G and BR1500G.

You're right, the power extension lead is an extension cord, I'll ignore the extension cord when calculating the wattage needed. Thank you for your help also.
