Hi All,
I have a APC Smart-UPS 1500VA USB & Serial RM 2U 230V installed 2 months ago and had no problem untill recently. The UPS kept doing self-test non stop. From the log files, it is doing it every minute. I've tried to disconnect my load but the same thing happened. I even have the comm cables inplugged. My load is 18+%. What's wrong with the UPS ?
Regards,
C.L.Chee

Self tests are caused by:
Initial power-up
Scheduled Self Test
The unit self test setting (never, 7, or 14 days)
Self test done on command (via front button or software/accessory)
Fault of accessory, cable, or unit (which is why during troubleshooting its important to remove cables and accessory cards)
Swapping the unit to another location should only change power input, if anything at all. So, unless some kind of feedback or wiring issue in that room is causing the UPS to totally flip out (I doubt it, since something that severe would be noticed with another device), I would agree with ipickedawinna and check with phone/email tech. support on getting the unit replaced if it is in warranty.

What APC software/accessory are you using that is generating log files? Was it just showing up in the logs, or was the UPS actually switching to battery power for a self-test?

if the self test is actually happening and the UPS is switching back and forth, it could be caused by a faulty serial cable attached to the UPS. if you are using the serial cable in any way with this set up, you can remove it completely from the equation to see if that stops the problem. if so, contact support for a new one or at least to see if you're under warranty.
