This was originally posted on APC forums on 11/12/2014

Hi

I have been receiving this alert from several of my UPS.  UPS: Lost the local network management interface-to-UPS communication  They are all model # Smart UPS 1000 XL.  With the AP 9630 Network management Card. We have had this error for serveal months, I call tech support in june or july and they had me update the firmware in the Management card but the problem still occurs.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a serial # for one of the UPS

Model:Smart-UPS 1000XL

Serial:  AS1021140484

Rev: 681.19.D

Network Management Card

Model: AP 9630

Serial: ZA1207003854

Rev: 6.1.1

Thanks

Jon Keimig

Can you provide the log files from your units? I need at least config.ini and event.txt. (Instructions here -> How can I download Event, Data, Configuration, and Debug files from my Network Management Card? | FA..._

This typically means something is disrupting communication between the management card and the UPS. This could be a rouge serial cable attached or if the UPS has multiple accessories, they could be installed in the wrong priority order. If it has happening on more than one, then there is like a similar issue on both - like a serial cable connected because someone left it there, as in general, it should not be when you're using a Network Management Card.

Are you local to these units? It would be helpful to see the rear of the UPS if you could take a photo so I could see if I can pinpoint anything that shouldn't be there or that is installed incorrectly.
