HI
I´m tying to make an application in C for reading the status of my SMART-UPS for the OS QNX 6. But i don't know to make the serial communication with the UPS.
I also fail to make the communication with hyperteminal in Windows.
Thanks

Thanks.
"APC is moving away from UPSLink to the Microlink protocol for future UPSes"
For this reason and having just purchased what has turned out to be a Microlink controlled UPS, which we are unable to integrate with our existing APC UPS monitoring/control system, we'll be buying elsewhere in future.
Regards,
Richard

I have moved this to the 'UPS & Data Center Management Software' forum.
If you would like to request a copy of our link language protocol information (how a Smart-UPS talks to our software and what commands work in hyperterminal), you can click on the messages option in the forum interface above, and compose a Private Message to me with:
Contact Name (You)
Contact Phone Number
Contact E-Mail Address
Company Name
Business Sector/Nature of the Company you work for
Type of UPS you are going to use
What purpose you will use the link language protocol for
The reason we ask these questions is because the link language protocol is proprietary, can be risky to work with and we do not give it out freely to all customers. Also keep in mind that we only give out the information necessary to USE the protocol, we do not aid in the customization or creation of programs that will use it or help with outside applications.
Also, in terms of your inability to hyperterminal to the UPS in Windows, please see the KBASE document linked below:
http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1766
If you are still unable to use HT with the UPS, you may need to use a different 940-0024 or 940-1524 cable, try another PC, and/or make sure there are no USB/Serial adapters in between the UPS and PC.

Hi Don,
I would also very much like to get hold of the serial protocol, but cannot see how to get a private mail to you - I do not see the "messages option in the forum interface above", to do so.
Regards,
Richard

The "Smart Protocol" usually refers to UPSLink, which APC provides to licensors. There's also a lot of information about it on the internet.
APC is moving away from UPSLink to the Microlink protocol for future UPSes. Like you said, Microlink is not available.
You can still control a UPS via SNMP by using a Network Management Card.

Hi Angela,
Sadly, having found this information since posting, it looks as though the Microlink protocol is not available:

Unless this information is now incorrect?

Richard
