Test mail arrives succesful at gmail account Event mail doesn't

I have notification set up that dirk@gmail.com gets notified when an event (console login or ups goes on batteries) happens. Unfortunately this email address doesn't get notified when one of these events occurs, eventhough test emails are received. What did I do wrong? Does something else need to be configured before an email is send when an event occurs?

Would like to do that Angela, but can not attach it to this message. Please explain how to do that.

OK - I got the config.ini. I see a lot of events are disabled for all recipients. Can you tell me what you went through when you got this card? Or is it possible that it was previously configured? Can you tell me how your mail works? Does your local SMTP server programmed in forward to GMail? I ask because your mail server setting for recipient 3 (your GMail account) is set to local vs. recipients as outlined in the article so I just want to verify that is the way it should be.

Here are two things to try:

1.) Reset event configuration which should turn everything on to the every 2 minutes until the condition clears. In the Web UI, go to Administration->General->Reset/Reboot and choose Reset Only - Event Configuration. Press apply and verify it is completed. I don't know if you'll need to log off for it to apply but if you do, a yellow triangle will appear next to Log off on the top right.

2.) After trying step one, go to Administration->Notification->By Event->Click on Power Events and then you'll see a big list of events. Choose one you'd like to make sure you get (if not all) and on the next screen, verify your email recipient is selected to receive that event.

See below. You should see each recipient with a checkmark if the event is enabled for this recipient. You can also verify that before you start if you'd like. If you want to configure (enable/disable) a group of events, select by Group under Administration->Notification then you can go by severity or by category and it will walk you through a little wizard on what you'd like to get configured - just make sure you choose email recipients because this wizard works for event log, traps, and paging which you're not dealing with.

Thanks Angela. The card was bought second hand and already configured. I had to reset the password before I could even use it. Test-emails do get send-out and received by my Gmail-account. I will check and reset the event settings you mentioned. Thanks so far.

What is the difference when sending a test mail (Administration-Notification-Email-Test-Apply) and sending a mail when an event occurs? Is in both conditions the configured smtp-server used? Or should it be set not to use the smtp server?

as mentioned in the article, a lot of residential ISPs block port 25 unfortunately. that is what the recipient's mail setting will use (as well as the local). if it works on a test with the settings you had, it should work for the actual events when they occur. that is the whole point of the test - to verify the configuration you have works for when its time to notify you of problems or information from the UPS.

Thanks for all the help Angela. I think I found something. The spamfilter inside Gmail is very strict. Somehow it treats the test email as save (non-spam) and the event e-mails as spam surprised. I changed this and it works now! It wasn't APC's fault after all. I'm a happy camper nowsmile. I checked this when setting an email notifcation on console login and web login and I got notified on my Iphone immediately when I logged in with my webbrowser or putty(telnet). Thanks again for all the fast replies.
