Template for my APC UPS device question

All,

I have written a template for the UPS devices throughout the organizations network and i was just wondering if i was to upload the template to the UPS during working hours that it wouldn't hang, interrupt or cause any problems/issues.

So really I'm asking if I upload a template will it cause any issues?

Thanks,

Thomas.

yes, if you are modifying IP, subnet, Gateway, or bootmode (or just one of them), you will need the override=MAC address for the particular card. for anything you don't want to modify, you can just remove the keyword (item before πŸ˜ƒ and value (item after πŸ˜ƒ completely and the card won't do anything with it. it can also save space in the file and save time too for the card to process.

Thank you very much - I carried out the work on Sunday and as described it worked without hitch in the most part.

Thanks again for your support in this matter.

I assume you're referring to a config(config.ini) file? If so, the worst thing that would ever happen would be a warm start due to high network traffic. A warm start only reboots the card and not the UPS(outlet, usually due to network traffic This is a worst case scenario though. I wouldn't expect a config.ini upload to cause even a warmstart.

depending on any changes that need to be made, just be aware it could take 3-5 minutes to apply to each card too but hopefully not that long.

The below is part of my template - I'm hoping it's right. I'm going to be configuring around 30/40 of the UPS devices on Sunday and plan to create individual .ini files with just the hostname/IP add changed but wasnt sure if I needed the Override part of the config...

Thanks again for all your help it really is appreciated

Override=00 C0 B7 D0 F5 24
SystemIP=172.16.2.207
SubnetMask=255.255.255.0
DefaultGateway=172.16.2.1
BootMode=Manual
HostName=gh5-r25-ups1
DomainName=
PortSpeed=Auto
DHCPBootpVendorClass=APC
DHCPBootpClientID=MAC
DHCPBootpUserClass=SUMX
BootpMaxRetries=4
BootpUserPriorSettings=enabled
DHCPMaxRetries=0
DHCPRequireCookie=enabled
BootModeTransition=enabled

One last question guys - with my template do I need to have a specific mac address for each ini? i.e. the mac address of the device i am uploading to the device:

[NetworkTCP/IP]
Override=00 C0 B7 D2 XX XX ?

Sorry if that sounds daft.

you don't need to have that unless you are applying certain settings such as IP, subnet, default gateway, and bootmode. it is a way to help prevent a user from mass configuring the same network settings to multiple cards. if the override=MAC ADDRESS does not equal the actual MAC of the card, it will not apply those settings i mentioned.

there are also certain UPS models where this applies and you'll see override=XX123456890 where that is the serial number of the UPS and if it doesnt match, it won't apply certain items like output voltage, transfer ranges, frequency, etc.
