We receive the error E7 when we plug in our XR frame. Sometimes the main stack will acknowledge the batteries but then they just drop off again. Is this possibly a bad cable? If so does anyone know the specific part number from APC because I don't have RJ9 connectors to make one.

Josh...
Did you solve your problem yet?
I also have the similar problem with you. The difference is that I have four extension units. My unit #3 show that error "E7" message. The #2,#4 and #5 are working well. And the light is green in the unit#3 back. I believe cable should be good since other units are working well.
Do you have any suggestion for me?
Thanks.
Wayne

Hello,
Which Symmetra system are you using and with which XR frame? E7 is obviously loss of communication between the two, but have you tried simply reseating the SYCC and SYXRCC comm cards on the back of the mainframe and XR frame? The cable is a simple 4wire straight through RJ9 connection. APC internal part number is 0W6002B.
Have you tried putting the UPS into Maintenance Bypass and reseating the Intelligence Modules? You would want to turn the System Enabled switch off to do that as well. What firmware do you have on your Main Intelligence Module? You can get this through the web interface or the LCD display on the front of the unit. The info will be in the Diags menu.

We believe it to be a SY12KEX or something like that the web int. says Symmetra 16000. We have tried reseating all of the cards XR and on the mainframe. Do you need to turn off the system enable before pulling the intelligence module? We pulled all the cards and reseated along with the intelligence and redundant modules and then hit the system enable switch. Here is the following firmware.
Intelligence Module (IM)
Status: On & OK
Master Firmware Revision: 128
Slave Firmware Revision: 207
Serial Number: ED**********
Manufacture Date: 11/29/00
Hardware Revision: NA
Redundant Intelligence Module (RIM)
Status: On & OK
Firmware Revision: 207

Joshrock11,
Is the unit actually reporting this?:
"Serial Number: ED**********"
Or did you star out the serial? If that is reporting as such, you should reseat the MIM (in maintenance bypass to be safe).

The comm cable is a 4 wire straight through with RJ9 connections on each end.
Usually in situations like this you would check the following things in this order:
1. Cable
2. Communication cards
3. Intel Mods
I would definitely try to re-seat the communication cards on both ends. Is the SYXRCC card's green status on?

APC sent me a new cable on Thursday so I should have it this week. As reseating the cards we did that last saturday and still no help. The green light is on and the batteries show up and then go away again. It will say increase decrease for about 15 minutes then stop.

wayne, we should be able to easily determine where your issue is since you have multiple frames to work with.
personally, i find it rare that the cable solves the problem but it can. you can swap the cables around from inbetween each frame to try that but i think then your # 5 frame wouldnt work.
i recommend switching the entire Symmetra XR Communications card from the back of the extended frame to a different frame number, maybe to #3 and then seeing if the error follows the card. i find it is usually a problem with the card.
by the way, these cards are "hot swappable" so there is no risk to disturbing the UPS load or anything. when you reseat them, the display should go off in the front then when the card is in the other frame that you move it to, you may see "8.8" on the front display and then it should display the frame number. also, double check to make sure the green light comes back on on the back of the card.
let us know if that works or not if you can try it and we can act accordingly.
hope this helps!
