Hello,
About a year ago we got an old decommissioned Symmetra SYMSTRF, and we were able to re-commission it and it has been running great. However I was wondering if there was any software I could use to manage it. The web interface is very limited (I assume it's just for setup). We just had a battery pack go bad so It would be nice to be able to monitor the UPS or even get statistics :). We have some newer apc 3000va that we use powerchute to monitor and it is very nice. I understand this UPS is very old but it works great and would be nice to get some more life out of it.

the web interface - what is the part # on that device? it might be under Help->About or you can walk to the back of the unit to see if you see any web/snmp management cards.
earlier masterframes came with AP9606 and newer ones with AP9619. powerchute software (powerchute network shutdown) is used on servers or attached devices for graceful shutdown. the network management card is what is installed in the UPS and where you can set up email alerts, SNMP, etc
whatever you have now, if you're unhappy with it, you could install an AP9630 or AP9631 and it will work fine with the NMC. you can also use the older AP9618 network management card if you need out of band management. here is the link to browse the network management cards -> http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=98
hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply!
The part # of the management device is: AP9606
For some reason the card was/is saying that "it has detected and unsupported chassis" or something like that, didn't notice that before. In the help it shows a menu that should display UPS information but I don't have that.
Well I will look at new management cards, can I replace them while the UPS is running?
Thanks again,

yup, it's hot swappable.
you could try flashing the card first with the newer firmware. what firmware is on it now? I think that is also under help->about.
here is an FTP link to the latest version. it must be done via FTP which you can check [this knowledgebase article|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/768] and refer to AP9606 FTP instructions for help.

Wow, thank you so much!
I decided to flash the card (it had a fimrware version from 1999) and I did a dir and noticed that the version of software for the management card was for the wrong UPS! That explains why it was saying it didn't support this UPS. So I flashed it with the newest firmware and AOS, thanks to your FTP link. Now I get stats and info on the UPS.
Thanks again,
