Im using PCNS for my datacenter to handle my virtual environment and its hosts however I would also like to get my storage to shutdown properly incase of power outage. One of my NAS can talk with UPS devices, however I ahve yet to find the correct cable/port on the APC to do that. I have a AP9827 cable but none of the ports on my device appear to talk with the NAS while using it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Which port on the APC should I be using for USB communications to a device?

PCNS would not talk with your NAS, if anything, the actual Network Management Card would. It does seem though that this only supports USB. It might work off of generic UPS usages available via USB.
It definitely cannot connect to Symmetra RM via USB. You're going to want to check into the power requirements for this device and then determine how much runtime you need and effectively look into getting a UPS that has USB connectivity. I also don't know if this device has any requirements as far as needing a step approximated sinewave or a pure sinewave (and meaning whether you can go with a Back-UPS or Smart-UPS product).
Not sure if our UPS selector has this device on it to give you an idea of a possible UPS -> http://www.apc.com/tools/ups_selector/index.cfm
We also have sales support that could help you pick out a UPS but I don't do sales and don't want to omit something important when you're choosing a UPS.

Hi,
This UPS only supports serial communications and you won't find a place for AP9827. Symmetra RM also supports a UPS Network Management Card with PCNS.
Usually NAS provides give out a list of compatible UPS models on their website. You may want to check that on the vendor's website (or I usually just google the brand and UPS or uninterruptible power supply). Most NAS will work with Back-UPS or Smart-UPS products which come with a USB connection these days. I've also seen a few NAS also be able to monitor SNMP data which a Symmetra RM would provide.

We have the network card and we are using PCNS. As of yet I have not found a way to have PCNS talk with my NAS. Im using the vmware appliance and have not found a way to ssh from it to another device.
My NAS is a lenovo px12-400r. This is all I have been able to find:
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Support: Allows to receive unattended shutdown requests from UPS through USB port to prevent data loss in case of power failure
I ahve tried a male to male cable from the UPS usb ports to the NAS but the nas never recognizes the device.
