Symmetra RIM Faults

Symmetra Model SYAF16KRMI was Indicating bad RIM and replaced a new RIM, But still bad RIM is appearing .Now completely shutdown the symmetra and without redundancy each new RIM and existing IM working. When we insert redundancy unit it says RIM fault. Without redundancy raw data is O.K. But with redundancy you get raw data change @ RIM like (R 05 0000 0200 0000 0000 0000 E0F0 806B 2BF7E4F4 0183 D2AD )
And File was attached for your reference.

The raw status from your Redundant module does indicate the presence of at least one bad battery module in the system, but no other faults.

Do you have any other faults unrelated to the batteries?

I expect you have "Bad Battery Module, Main Frame R2, level 2 from top" (or some other location) and "Replace Batteries" in your fault and diagnostics menu. Are there other fault messages there?

Hi Bataya,

Thank you for providing the raw status data. It was very helpful in determining your issue.

The reason why there is no fault when only one SYMIM5 Intel Module is installed and the fault returns when the second SYMIM5 is installed is because there is a disagreement between the two modules.

Specifically, each module disagrees over its measurement of either Input/Output Voltage, Current, Frequency, or Power level. Since each module makes an independent assessment of the system's status, it is possible that one module is unable to accurately measure one of those 4 categories, resulting in a disagreement.

The best way to determine which module is bad is to record the voltage/current/frequency/load % from the status menu with just one module installed alone in the UPS.

Compare the measurements of both modules and you will likely find an obvious incorrect measurement.

This fault will always be reported by the module serving as the back-up, or redundant unit. It does NOT indicate that the module reporting the fault is the one that is bad.

Perhaps you could also provide the serial numbers and reported manufacturing date of your two Intel Modules. I think you will be able to easily identify the bad module by comparing their measurements.

Hi Bataya,

I'm not sure what you mean. The raw data you provided indicates the issue I discussed in my previous post. Please let us know if you need assistance in determining which module is bad.

Generally, if you have a trusted module installed in the UPS and you install one of the new modules in the other bay, if the fault returns the new module you just installed is bad.

Can you help me please decoding my RAW date from the SYMIM5 Symmetra 16KVA MIM and RIM? Is there a description of the RAW data, which byte is what?

My both modules MIM and RIM since a few days are in fault (red LED on). On the RIM sometimes the LED go out, but usually it's ON.

Here are the data: both modules have f/w: 510 and slave 602, mfg date: 05/06/06.

MIM:

M05 0002 0000 0800 0000 0000 E0FE 006B 000FDDDB 01A7F5AD

RIM:

R05 0002 (sometimes changes to 0082) 0000 0800 0000 0000 E0FE 806B 23F7E4FE 0003D6AD

I also have a power unit SYPM4KI fault (f/w rev. 323, mfg date 05/20/06):

0804 4B26 0004 2086 0002 0C 46 7B 05 00 00 00 5B AC AC 01 05.

Do you know what is the root cause of it?

Thansk a lot,
