Have a customer that has an old SYMSTRF-PD, is wanting to install new SY20K40F. Now, his UPS now does not have an external Maintenance Bypass, and he does not want to shut equipment down while installing the new unit. Is there a way to keep from shutting down his equipment to exchange the units?

hi erin,
from my own personal experience, if you do not have some type of wrap around external bypass, besides the internal bypass within the symmetra masterframe, then there is no way to get this done.

Can you do it... No, the old UPS is a single phase UPS and the new UPS is a three phase UPS so whatever distribution scheme they are using will most likely also be changing. Even if the old system had an external Maintenance Bypass it wouldn't work with the new UPS.
I have tied in new UPS systems to old systems without MBC cabinets, however it has been done with very experienced electricians willing to do very dangerous hot work.
