From what I understand you do NOT want to place a surge protector before a UPS but it is fine to place a APC SurgeArrest after a UPS.
This is great for a SMT/SUA 1500 and below. But what options do we have for a SUA/SMT 2200? Are there any plans for a 20A SurgeArrest? Are we suppose to use two SurgeArrests where each is connected to a different outlet on the SUA/SMT 2200?
If an APC representative could reply I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.

why are you looking to do this? add more outlets?
if so, this would be done with a Rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU) which is designed to provide more outlets and then the UPS provides the surge protection downstream to the devices connected to the PDU and the PDU itself since PDUs do not offer surge protection.
we offer these in different types with different ratings.

Why would I want to add a surge protector after the UPS? Because the surge protection on most APC UPS devices (e.g., SMT2200) is fairly weak and I'd like to protect my expensive components from damage.
A rack PDU would not help me as it doesn't provide surge protection and it requires a rack (the SMT2200 is a floor model).
Thanks.
