I have a 2200xl that has been out of commission for some time. needs new batteries, but when plugged into AC it doesn't power up. no lights, no beep, etc. The AC outlet works.
any ideas on what to check?

hi sorry, thought you were talking to clarkson.
if you have the blue connector back there, then you can start with the battery since it does need that to start but it also could be something else, considering its age. are you able to measure the battery voltage on the battery in there to verify it is low/dead before you make a purchase? or do you have a spare to swap in before purchasing? i'd hate to tell you to buy a battery and there is something else going on here but it is the next logical choice.

Hi andyknas,
How long was it sitting around for and what is the model number off the little white sticker on the back of the UPS?
The older model Smart-UPS (i.e. SU2200XL) had to have good batteries installed to start up. If that is the model you have then I would suggest either new batteries or a Trade-UPS to replace the UPS. If you have another UPS of the same model you can pull the batteries out of it to test this one just to be sure its only the batteries needing to be replaced.
The design was changed in the newer UPS so they will turn on with no batteries installed to make it easier to test.
Hope this helps.

it has just one battery connector on the rear, with a cover plate screwed over it. no contact in it.

that is not specific enough unfortunately. we have several units from different time periods, etc and there are several units i could call Smart UPS 2200XL.
are you able to get the model # off the back of the UPS? if not, can you tell me if its rackmountable and if so, how many U in size?

the sticker on the back, with the SN, just says Smart-Ups 2200XL
i did put back in some really old batteries and it DID start up now, so it appears to be an issue with the replacement batteries.
however, when powered on, the fan doesn't spin at a steady speed - is this common?

okay, this must be extremely old and didnt even have a model number as we do nowadays.
the fan should only come on when:
•The UPS is on battery
•Load is >75%
•UPS is charging the battery
•UPS temperature is greater than 104º F

I have the same issue - no power. Model# is SU2200XL NET SN# WS9920011623 220v
We also have a Backups XS1200 that we just replaced the battery and the red warning light - replace battery is still on.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Michael

Hi:
And yes there is a blue connector in back and it fills up about 2/3 of the space. There is a black metal bar over it. It is a tower version as oppsoed to a rack version so it looks a bit different.
Thanks,
Michael

No I did not. I walked into this situation and it is connected to the server so I will have to try it after powering them down.
Thanks for the recommendation.

I have not heard back from you so what i really want to know is if it is worth buying a new battery for this unit?
Thanks,
Michael
