Hello, Anybody have a Smart-UPS VT 30 kVA or similar? We have recently purchased one for our server room. I want to be able to automatically shut down 3 Apple Xserves in the event of a power outage. I have logged into the APC web interface>UPS>add client. I type in the IP address of each server - do I need to install an agent on the server?

you will want to install powerchute network shutdown on each one of your servers that you need to shutdown. when you install the servers, the software asks for the IP of the network management card in the VT and adds itself to that list you see even though as you found, you can add the IP address manually.
powerchute network shutdown can be [found here|http://www.apcc.com/tools/download/software_comp.cfm?sw_sku=SFPCNS223&id=127&family=&part_num=&swfam...]
thus, based on configurations in the management card and in the client software, you can set the servers to shutdown based on certain events.
