Smart-UPS SRT 5000 (slow management page) port 443 going up and down...

Just got the Smart-UPS SRT 5000 (ID 1044) and configured the management page with a static IP.  The page is super slow to has trouble loading at times.  Upon pinging the IP I can see there are no timeouts.  However if I ping the 443 port specifically I can see its not staying up the whole time.  (See attached picture)  Normal ping is fine but not 443.  The firmware was at 16.0 and I upgraded to 17.0 but still not any better.  Even the firmware would not update over the network.  I had to  put the update on a USB stick and do it locally.  I'm hesitant to put this into production with it acting flaky.  Anyone else seen this or have a fix?  If I could find an old firmware version I could try rolling back but don't have one to try with.  Any ideas?

Upgrading the UPS firmware has absolutely nothing to do with the NMC. Login to the NMC -> About.

Upload the image capture to the forum.

What happens using different web browsers?!?

What happens if you connect directly to the NMC with a laptop via cross over cable and access the NMC via HTTPS?!?

Also verify minimum TLS and Session Cookie. Make changes to see how the system behaves and reacts.

Let me know all the above. 👍

The firmware was just me hoping it would help.

I tried a cross over cable and still loosing pings to port 443 directly from laptop.  Attached is the About screen.

Also tried a different browser (MS Edge) instead of Chrome but no difference.

Sorry, Im not sure what your asking about the TLS and Session cookie?

The About tab for the NMC was not fully displayed please upload again. Go to Configuration -> Network -> Web: Minimum Protocol TLS 1.1 / 1.2

Require Authentication Cookie: Checked / Unchecked?!? If checked uncheck it and observe performance and behaviour.

In the same tab is SSL Certificates. Are they active and current?!? Are they self signed, purchased, APC Generated?!?

Security: If your network has policies in place along with firewall settings. Validate they are not the root cause.

DNS: Is this tab well defined and correctly?

Was Enabled but turned it off, rebooted Network Interface, no change on drop outs.
On another note I enabled port 80 and that is also dropping out.

These are self signed.  Have not touched them since we bought this.

Security: If your network has policies in place along with firewall settings. Validate they are not the root cause.
I am on the same subnet and there is no firewall between my computer and the management card.
Side note I did plug a laptop directly into the

DNS: Is this tab well defined and correctly?
Yes it is but I'm connecting directly to the IP which shouldn't be related to DNS settings since that involves a name resolving to an IP.

Lastly I also tried enabling port 80 and that is also dropping out and sluggish.  I have a couple other older APC UPS SmartUPS 1400 on the same subnet and they do not have this issue.

I’m assuming the screen captures are not current as they don’t reflect your reply up above?!?

TLS: Change it to 1.1

Port 443: Cookies Uncheck

Port 80: Enable

Certificate: Delete it and reboot NMC

Report back what is seen and observed.

If none of the above changes anything you may consider the following in no specific order of importance:

1. NMC Format

2. NMC Firmware Update

3. NMC Swap: Assuming this isn’t an embedded NMC swap it with another known working NMC.

This will confirm the UPS is fine with the temporary NMC card. If you move the new NMC to another system and see the same behaviour it’s obviously the NMC.

So using the three options up above is the next step. I have to assume you’ve created a service request to track this issue?!? 🤔

If not do so now so a NMC can be sent out under warranty. If the NMC is embedded the entire UPS must be RMA’d 🤦‍♂️

Lastly, does the switch ever report flapping on the port??? If you send a continuous ping to the NMC. Do you see the connection to the web browser become stable and quick to access?!?
