We are a small company and have just invested in our first UPS having moved to an area with occaisional long power outages. We got the Smart UPS 750 and I just have a couple of questions.
I notice there is an ethernet port on the device, can this be plugged into our network switch to enable management anywhere in our office or is it some other use of the port?
On the quick start guide it mentioned plugging devices into the UPS before it is switched on. If we want to add devices in future does this mean that we should turn the UPS (and therefore the devices connected to it) off to add the new item.
Apologies if these are dumb questions.

what model are your NAS? if you need to shutdown multiple units at a time (server, NAS, etc), i'd look at a network management card. most NAS have USB capability and hopefully SNMP or network capability too to monitor the NMC via the network. there is no USB hub option unfortunately.
i agree on the testing idea, just cut the circuit breaker feeding that outlet or simply unplug it from the wall.

Yes it is the SMT750 and it did come with an RJ-45 to DB9
My next question therefore is - what is the best way to set it up for multiple nas units to shut down safely when the APC battery comes on. I assume only one can be plugged in via usb and I would rather not just have to pick the most important.
Is my answer perhaps to use the pc to have the connection and then when the apc is active it sends a command over the network to the nas devices to power down? Alternatively can I connect a usb hub to send the request directly from the APC to each device?
I also assume the best way for me to test the system is just to turn it off at the wall?
