Smart UPS 5000 and HP R3000XR advice

Hi,

Basically we had a power blip, the usual light flicker from maybe a storm etc (high voltage/surge/spike not sure what it was) and the 5000 had literally switched off.. it sat there with every light flashing at the same time. The entire rack was off... I switched the UPS off using the power button, then back on and it all went up and started working again! The batteries were replaced maye 2 years ago, its at about 10-20% load and all LED's are green with the battery fully charged. It did not error on the original spikes though, only one of the power spikes seems to of caught it out.

I would assume this was just a UPS issuse and it was broken, BUT the HP R3000XR in a different rack (on the next spike later on) simply beeped and a red light appeared for a second, the entire cabinet of servers rebooted and now its back up and all green lights again... I find it really odd two brands of UPS had simulat symptoms. They have always been 100% fine from what I can remember with all power issues.

The 3rd HP R3000XR had no issues (only at 20% load).

For the moment, as the more important servers have 3 psu's, ive connected each PSU to a different UPS to maximize uptime, assuming the chances of 2 failing at once are much lower.

Any Ideas?

Thanks!

The UK, so voltage is 240v.

Thanks!

can you tell us what the current battery voltage of the Smart UPS is? either via the network management card or software or even a voltmeter?

all the LEDs flashing on the front of the UPS indicate a DC bus problem.

what is the exact model on this UPS? can you grab it from the back of the UPS on the little white sticker?

issue number one i see is that if this is an SUA5000RMT5U or SU5000RMT5U, that is supposed to be fed an input of nominal 208v and not 240v. it looks like it is one of those models because it has Trim. please confirm if you dont mind.

hmm ok everything looks good status wise that you pasted. it seems to me for some reason that there was a DC bus problem on the UPS so it turned off and thus, all of the LEDs started flashing. unfortunately i am not sure WHY it happened..
