Smart-UPS 5000 Serial Connection

Hi, I am tying to connect the APC Smart-UPS 5000 with the interface serial cable: UPS Communications Cable Smart Signalling 15' / 4.5m (AP9804) to a computer. I have tried different serial client settings such as 9600, 2400, 19200 bps according to this guide: http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7879

And I still can't connect to the interface serial port. Any ideas or any other procedure? Note: I pressed the reset appliance reset button and still the same.

thanks in advance!

Aldo

ok, that is what i am asking. it must have a network management card in there and I need to know the model. on the back of the unit, near the RJ-45 network jack, I need to know the LEDs you see and if they are solid and flashing, as well as know if you see if it says a model near the jack, such as AP9617 or AP9630.

thanks.

Do you think I can't connect to serial interface because I am using the APC cable AP9804 instead of the *940-0024* ?

are you trying to connect to a network management card in the UPS smart slot? if so, what model is it? are there any LEDs on the network jack? depending on the model of device installed and what you are trying to access, the port speed may be different.

I am taking about the Serial Port, the reason I need to use the serial port is to reset the Network interface password, I inherited this APC device and I can't access it through the network interface due a lack of user credentials.

I finally was noticed that the model number for my APC network card is AP9617, that should be covered in the tutorial http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7879 however I was unable to access the serial interface; for now all I know is the network management IP address, I can access the login webpage but I don't have the username or password for it. Is there an way to reset them?

thanks in advance!

Aldo

sorry. i must have missed this post. glad you got it taken care of. you had the correct cable. AP9804 is a SKU for a 15 foot version of the 940-0024, which is 940-1524.

Hi Angela,

I have exactly the same problem except I don't even know the IP address of the network management card because the UPS is not a brand new and it's already configured. I have tried connecting to serial port by an APC (DB-9 to DB-9) cable but ended up with no communication at all. My NMC is AP9617 and the amber light (the right light) is blinking and after a while the amber blinking becomes amber/green blinking. Please advise me what configuration I need to be able to connect UPS. Thanks
