Pardon my ignorance but I was hoping someone might be able to answer a question. We have a number of Smart-UPS 5000 RM XL and one recently lost mains supply and discharged. Power was restored approx 2 hours later. With all the devices (cisco switches) plugged into it it wouldn't start. If you removed all the devices and added them back one at a time, it would work and stay up. Now that its fully charged and everything is working normally, I can see that load util is 28.6%
Can anyone suggest why we needed to plug the devices back in one at a time. Should I increase the "Return Battery Capacity" value to above 0 so that it has a chance to recharge a bit first ? Having read a number of posts here, it seems that 'in theory' you should be able to power on the unit with the batterys discharged as long as they are not properly dead / old etc and they will start charging. Any help very gratefully recieved as I'm being asked the question that if we have an extended power outage again will this manual intervention be required each time.
Regards
Dan

Thank you for the swift response,
Yes I have our UPS setup with the same settings.
With regards the questions you asked, the issue I have was that a sparky was in the room at the time trying to fix the environmental problem. They took the decision to plug the devices back in one by one, but didn't make a note of what the ups was doing or what lights were showing. Thanks again, what I'll have to do is organise a test to prove it one way or the other.

ok so by the looks of what you've posted, this is either an SURTD5000XLT or SURT5000XLT?
as long as you the setting in my screen shot set correctly, yes, the UPS should power back on when utility power is restored.
also, you said "with all the devices plugged in, it wouldnt start." - does this mean the UPS would not turn back on via the on/test button until you unplugged each device and attached it again? or was the UPS on but not outputting power? were there any LEDs on the UPS when you walked over to it?
let me know what you have set up for the settings in the screenshot compared to mine.
