Hi - changing from tower servers each with their own Smart-UPS 1000 USB connection and Powerchute business edition software, over to rack servers powered by a Smart-UPS 3000XL with a AP9617 network card & PCNS.
Trying to get to grips with the PCNS software (2.2.3 build 12) and struggling (the interface appears less intuitive than the powerchute business edition)
A couple of things that I've noticed...
1. I've configured the PCNS software on a windows 2000 server test machine to shutdown 60 seconds after power failure - but all it does is shutdown the OS and go to a screen which says "it is now safe to turn off your computer" - in the business powerchute software there is an option to specify "shutdown" or "shutdown & power off" - no such option in PCNS ?
2. in the business powerchute software there was a section where you could identify specific software (sql, IIS etc) running on a server and configure the shutdown to time itself accordingly for those applications - I can't see anything similar on PCNS
Any help would be appreciated...
regards.

PCNS doesn't offer a specific setting for shutting down the PC. However, you can adjust this setting within Windows:
If you are comfortable with editing the registry, this is where the key resides in Windows 2000 and later:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\PowerdownAfterShutdown
the values of this key are:
1 - the PC turns off after shutdown.
0 - the PC stays on and "it is safe to turn off you PC now" will be displayed.
Also, you may want to take a look at this article if it still gives you problems: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810903]
For your second question, no, it does not offer application shutdown options. You can use a command file to shut down your applications.

Hi Dom and welcome to the APC Forum.
For your second question I hope this would help you. Like what Erasmus said you will need to create a command file for the shutdown utilities. For you to have an idea on how to do it what you can do is to open the Help Contents of PCNS and the search for Shutdown Utilities Action. It should show you where can you find these utilities and how would you at least create a command file.
Hope this helps.
