Hi,
I apologize for my English but I'm using google to translate.
I am in possession of an APC Smart-UPS 3000VA LCD RM 2U 230V which is completely blocked.
Let me explain, had a firmware 6.0 and my client tried to upgrade to a more recent version but during the procedure the software update gave an error and the UPS is stuck on "FIRMWARE UPDATE IN PROGRESS .." to a few hours up to it, thinking it had been blocked off by force.
When it was turned back on the ups does not seem to start with the display remains lit blue but not bring up any screen and, of course, no connection is usb to serial seems to respond ... I know that is serious but what can I do? can you give me some advice ?!
thank you

To do a braindead..
Turn the UPS off (if that works) and remove anything plugged into the power outlets as well as your serial communication cable. Unplug the UPS from the wall. Remove the battery for at least 20 seconds and you'd also want to hold down the power button for several seconds after the battery removal. Then, reconnect the battery and reconnect the UPS power cord to the wall and see if the UPS behaves any differently. Also, at this time, check the hyperterminal and see if you see anything similar to Battman's screenshot.

I had a similar problem doing a firmware update on an Smart UPS X 3000 (SMX300RMLV2UNC)...my laptop battery died in the middle of the firmware upload.I was able to recover when I noticed that the UPS when powered on was still trying to upload the file : running hyperterminal the UPS was going thru a cycle of "No application in Memory", looking for an upload, then giving up and rebooting, then "No application"...over and over again. During the waiting for file send, letter "C"'s would appear across the screen in a row, one by one. When I saw that, while the C's were appearing I used hyperterminal's "Send File" function , browsed for the correct firmware file, then sent it. HyperTerminal completed the upload , the UPS restarted and all was well!

Excuse me, I tried to connect to the port using standard parameters such as 9600/8 / none / 1 / None but the hyperterminal I do not return anything. There are different parameters to use? I am concerned because the feeling is that the UPS does not start right, I feel it too quiet. I'm losing hope. other ideas

Tomorrow I will attempt a little with Hyperterminal but I believe it is the same problem because as I said the ups does not write anything on the screen and I do not receive response from the serial, but I have not actually provasto the Hyperterminal

Hello - those are the correct connection speed with HyperTerminal. You could try a complete power cycle on the UPS with HyperTerminal connected/running.... unplug ups , disconnect battery, push power button to brain dead , then reconnect battery and power back up. If that doesn't work I don't have any other suggestion.

UPS... with the older ones you push and hold the "OFF" button for 10 seconds with the UPS unplugged and battery disconnected . With the latest ones there is no "OFF" button so try pushing and holding the (\) (combined ON/OFF function) button instead. Or maybe Angela N can pipe in to confirm this.

With newer UPSs, you can remove the battery and still hold down the single power button I believe for about 10 seconds.

OK, so where is the cable that you were connecting between your computer and the UPS? Can we see a picture of that? It should be connected to the port labeled SERIAL on the back of your UPS and then to your computer. It should look like this and have '940-0625A or even 940-1525A on the DB-9 connector):

You are using 9600 baud rate in Hyperterminal you said, correct? Are you sure that the correct communication port has been chosen as well as well as the other settings? (8 data bits, 1 stop bit, parity non, no flow control)?
