Hello! I have a Smart-UPS 2200xl - SUA2200RMXL3
It will not power on and all it does it chirp every second and flashes all the lights on the front panel.
I do not have extra batteries to try. I need to diagnose the issue before spending money on batteries if that is indeed the issue. Replacement batteries for this unit will cost around $400 of which I do not want to spend if that is not the problem.
The troubleshooting tips in the manual don't address this issue either. I have changed power sources and the issue continues.
Does anyone know what this issue could possibly be?

how old are the batteries? the fact that the UPS flashes all of the LEDs on the front panel does not sound good..is it still doing that? did you just have to connect up the batteries and push the on button to get it to turn on or anything else special?

Even know this post is old, These older units will do unheard of things when the batteries are bad, The unit has no fault, just the batteries are shot, also the unit will NOT charge the batteries if it knows it is bad
Go Here and skip to 0:27, Thats the chirp hes talking about. (i had one do that chrip, i popped in new batteries, and its been forever happy)

i am thinking internal fault and not to waste time with batteries.
there are a few free things i might suggest if you want to try them - braindead and coldstart.
braindead - turn off the UPS (sounds like its off), remove all attached load and/or data cables. remove AC power from the wall and hold down the off button on the front panel for about 2-3 seconds. the UPS should click and the front LEDs might also flash at that point. the situation you have now should stop. proceed to cold start immediately.
coldstart - after braindead and UPS is still removed from AC power, hold down the test button on the front panel. it will beep twice (if this works) and you need to let go during the second beep to see if the UPS starts off of its own batteries. timing on this can be a little difficult if you've never done it before so re-braindead if you're not sure if you did it correctly.
see if you get any change in behavior but if not, i'd go with a new UPS.

I will try this. Thank you for the suggestions. I think I will also try removing the batteries and charging externally.

So, I got it to boot by charging the batteries externally. Seems to run just fine but the batteries are not holding a charge. So either the batteries are not holding a charge or the ups is not charging the batteries. Is there anyway to make this determination???
