Smart UPS 2200 rmi2u power failure

Hi,

This problem started when the replace battery light on the UPS lit and the warning beep every 5 hours occurred. I purchased new batteries and replaced the old ones and plugged them back in. (the UPS was still active, about 15 servers rely on it.) However once the batteries were in the replace battery light was still lit, the only difference was the the battery indicators were now flashing, this carried on for about a day.
The next day the UPS failed without warning. All our servers went down and had to be rerouted, blah blah. The Ups now refuses to turn on, even though the rear LED says it is still receiving power from the mains. I have tried holding the power button down, but that didn't work.
We have a backup UPS in case of something like this, so the problem isn't very urgent. I would just like to understand what went wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Joe,

UPS might not recognize the battery that you have used since it is a non-apc battery and that is also one of the causes why Battery Bar Graph Flashing after battery replacement, in addition, it might not able to recalculate it's runtime so I am not sure if that will support the load during power disturbances.

Hi Joe,

Good day!

I have some questions for you for better understanding of the issue.

1.Did you purchase a geniune APC battery catridge? If you may, please send me the model and serial number-in private message

2.Are you using software to monitor the UPS and shutdown your devices?- e.g PowerChute Softwares

3.Was the configuration changed (if you have added loads to the UPS after the new battery was installed)

What you may also is to have the UPS unplugged from the wall, then press and hold the power ON "I" button - to force the UPS to turn on using it's battery power.

Hi Juangele,

1. No I didn't, I just bought ones compatible with the particular UPS.

2. Unfortunately not, we've had problems putting the UPS on the network. (Powerchute isn't finding it.)

3. No we didn't add anything new to the UPS, as far as I know, it was fully loaded already.

That said, I didn't realise that the test button was also the on button. I tried turning it on with the power out, as you suggested, that didn't work. But, when I plugged the power back in and tried, it worked! although it currently has no load, all the battery lights are now green, as well as the current regulating indicator.

Given the way it conked out before, I'm hesitant to put any load on it until I am sure it's OK, do you have any reason to believe it will fold again?
