Smart-UPS 2200, Powerchute 4.2.0 and two Windows Server 2012 R2 Servers - Graceful Shutdown

Hi - I've been through the forums and the help file for the 2200, trying to fine an example of a Windows Server graceful shutdown. This is mention of an event, a CMD file, etc.

Where exactly is the "event" that I need to connect with, is there one for each server and do you have an example of a CMD file and what needs to be loaded into it?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I’d already been through those documents before contacting support. The information is accurate just not helpful.  I’d suggest you create 3-4 examples with screenshots showing how to configure a graceful shutdown on various servers and include those in your documents.  After chatting with someone for 15-20 minutes in your tech department I was able to set up my solution.  The whole process just seemed to take 3-4 times as long as it should since the documentation is unclear.

Thanks

Greg

Hi,

You need to install PowerChute Network Shutdown on each server. I recommend you review these 2 documents.

Installation Guide http://www.apc.com/salestools/PMAR-9HBK44/PMAR-9HBK44_R5_EN.pdf

User's Guide http://www.apc.com/salestools/PMAR-9E5LVY/PMAR-9E5LVY_R4_EN.pdf

Which event to configure is your choice. PCNS will be commanded down when the UPS reaches the low battery threshold (see the NMC help file for low battery threshold) or you can configure the event On Battery so the shutdown will begin after the UPS has been on battery for x amount of time. Another option is to configure the event Runtime Remaining below so that when the UPS falls below a set amount of runtime PCNS will start the OS shutdown.

Each system can be configured individually. As an example system one start the OS shutdown process after the UPS has been on battery for 10 minutes. System 2 starts the OS shutdown process when the UPS falls below 15 minutes of runtime.
